It is an ancient Jewish custom to honor life cycle events such as births, birthdays,
anniversaries, yahrzeits and accomplishments by making contributions to funds committed
to performing acts of justice or furthering the general welfare of the community.
These gifts need not be large.There is a tradition of making monetary
gifts in multiples of 18 because the numerical value of the Hebrew letter
spelling the word “life” is eighteen. (Yod/10+Chet/8=18)
However, no gift is too small!
