Dear Hevre,
It’s our joy to open up the Green Bulletin this month. We are hoping that this will serve as a sort of Earth-oriented bulletin board for the whole community. We would love to hear what all of you are doing to make yourselves and your homes more earth-friendly. News about chickens, worm bins, weatherization, carbon counts, compost, composting toilets (but nothing too graphic please), etc. would be welcome. We also welcome articles that would increase our awareness about how to live more responsibly--one great example is Brendan Eprile’s article on Idling (see Jul/Aug 2008 newsletter). We are excited to be turning toward this as a community.
Happy early spring,
Vanessa
PS: In the Chinese calendar, there are five seasons: all of ours, plus one more, and that’s early spring. This is when the sap begins to rise, and we set our intentions (although they are invisible, they are powerful!) for how we hope to grow.
ANNOUNCEMENTS & THANK YOUS:
Thank you to Alain and Irene Karyo of Catamount Glass for donating 100 glasses and some casserole dishes to the synagogue, to help us decrease our use of paper and plastic in the kitchen.
OUR MOVE TO A GREEN COMMUNITY
Check here for updates and changes made to our policies and our business practices in order to make the necessary steps to a Greener Community.
•All of computer and copying paper used at Beth El is at least 30% PCW (Post Consumed Waste) and is acid free
•To reduce our waste we have switched from using paper dishes at large events like the Green Mountain Shabbat to using porcelain.
•Our newsletter has recently become available online which is helping to reduce the amount of trees we destroy. Please contact Amanda at 802-442-9645 if you no longer wish to receive a paper copy.
•We are switching our cleaning products to biodegradable products, bought at Spice'n Nice.
