Teens
Teen programming at Beth El encourages teens in developing positive Jewish identities through social and educational experiences tailored specifically to their age group and interests. In recent years, teen events have included bowling, ice-skating, tubing down the Battenkill river, movie nights, Sukkah sleepovers, Jewish tours of Boston and Manhattan and the Teen Ascent to Israel. We also have held bridge-building events among our teens and Muslim exchange students from abroad.
Our teen programming aims to endow students with positive associations with Judaism and to give them guidance during the challenging years of adolescence., helping them to develop their qualities of menschlikeit so that they begin to see themselves as members of the larger human family. Programs urge teens to make memories by “doing Jewish” and building a network of friends in the surrounding towns who can “do Jewish” along with them outside of our programming. Providing teens with an expansive Jewish experience enables them to break down the distinctions between Judaism and their regular “secular” lives and engage in diverse and creative ways to plug into Judaism.
